What is RSS?

If you think about all the information you access on the Internet each day, most of it could be described as lists. For example, the latest news headlines from the BBC, is just a list of links to the actual text of the story.

What RSS provides is a simple way to fetch content such as news headlines, direct to your computer. Using the BBC as an example again, say you're interested in Sports News and Entertainment News, while none of the other parts of the BBC's News site interest you. You could subscribe to RSS feeds for headlines from Sports and Entertainment, and you would receive updates each time a new story was posted in these sections.

RSS provides a simple way to automically collect information that interests you.

How do I subscribe?

To subscribe to a feed you'll need what is known as a 'news reader'.

Below is a list of popular feedreaders:

News Readers For Windows
Feedreader
Sharpreader
News Readers For Mac OS X
NewsFire
News Readers on the Web
Bloglines

Once you have the right software, you'll need the address of the feed you want to subscribe to. For example the WBS News Feed address is located on the left hand bar on the news page

All you need to do is copy that address into your news reader, and subscribe to the feed. Each time we post a new news story your reader will alert you. Now the news will come to you...
