Creating Smarter People for Smarter Businesses

Scottish Enterprise TNA's

The TNA, Training Needs Analysis, product for SMEs with growth potential is aimed at enabling organisations to rationalise and focus their people development strategy for pro active business development.

The Scottish Enterprise support service is free and targeted at small to medium sized businesses which are looking to develop a strategic approach to people development, with practical
sign-posting, to ensure the business is fit for the purpose of expansion and growth.

WBS won this Framework contract in 2007 and has retained the service since that time.

Scottish Enterprise offers their business customers a range of advice, support, products and services designed to increase their competitive advantage. Their goal is to achieve sustainable and measurable improvement in the Scottish economy. The TNA product which WBS delivers, is an optional tool to client companies, available as part of a defined Workforce Development Framework Diagnostic process.

Whilst the Scottish Economy has continued to grow the gap with our competitors has not been closed. The Scottish strategy for growth is to build Industry driven economic development.

The WBS TNA identifies the gap between actual and desired business performance and ensures that training needs are integrated within business outcomes. Therefore it is important that the analysis starts at the organisational level by identifying the organisations priorities, then moves to departmental/functional objectives and finally to individual role-holder’s task goals. This way, there can be greater confidence that the training plan will be aligned with the organisations’ development and growth; and that training activities all contribute to this in some way. The rationale and choice about who to train, in what, can then be much clearer, and the training activities justified in terms of its cost output and value-added input.

WBS develops the service in a bespoke fashion with each client. Then there are a number of steps to lead to the delivery. Firstly, to review the organisations business development opportunities and needs and the resources (people and skills) required to achieve this. Secondly, we will research and determine the needs to be met by learning and development. Thirdly, a selection of training strategies and approach will be created to ensure ROI training. Lastly, we’ll develop and present a proposal linking business objectives and ROI learning and development, including costs, support and options.
