Coaching Skills for Performance
It is critical for businesses to know how effective or productive their employees are and have access to a proven method of measuring performance. Introducing coaching into a company culture will create a place where people take responsibility for their actions; are allowed to take risks and contribute their own creative ideas; are supported through mistakes and set-backs, which are all treated as valuable learning experiences; and receive plenty of recognition for all that they achieve.
In a coaching culture, people are not afraid to speak up, or express conflicting views; challenges are welcome and there is plenty of fun. People build their confidence by the everyday ‘coaching’ they receive from their managers.
There are usually four major causes of performance problems in the workplace:
- Knowledge or Skills - The employee does not know how to perform the process correctly - lack of skills, knowledge, or abilities.
- Process - The problem is not employee related, but is caused by working conditions, improper procedures, etc.
- Resources - Lack of resources, support or technology.
- Motivation or Culture - The employee knows how to perform and chooses not to.
